1. What is your favourite part of being an RVT?

My favorite part of being an RVT is (of course) the animals! I truly feel lucky to be able to work with animals every day and apply all of my knowledge and technical skills to help them in any way that I can. I enjoy every aspect of being an RVT.

2. What things do you like to see pet parents do for their senior pets? What about their young pets?

Dental health is so important and providing that to senior pets is such a great thing. I’ve had so many clients tell me that their senior pet is acting young again after getting dental work done! And with young patients, I really enjoy seeing people provide positive socialization and practicing all sorts of handling with their pets.

3. What does it take to become an RVT?

Becoming an RVT starts with an accredited 2-4 year veterinary technician program. After that, you need to pass the veterinary technician national examination to become registered in Alberta.

4. What do most people not know about your job?

I think it surprises people that RVT’s have such a vast array of knowledge and technical skills. RVT’s will collect and run diagnostics, perform dental cleanings, manage anesthesia and so much more!

5. What’s your advice for pet parents going through a hard time with their pet’s health?

It can be so emotionally difficult to see your pet have health issues. Just know that you aren’t alone and there are so many avenues of support. My advice is to reach out for help!

6. Why did you choose to pursue a career in house call services?

There are many reasons that I chose a career in house call services. I really enjoy experiencing all the different areas of veterinary medicine and a house call practice is a niche that not many people are aware of. I think providing mobile veterinary care is such a fantastic way to help patients and pet parents.
