Dr. Olivia
Olivia Schmidtz, DVM/Owner/VSMT
DVM/Owner/VSMT

Dr. Olivia founded Habitat Vet to connect more with her clients and patients in their natural environment: home. A homebody herself, she enjoys caring for her patients best when they are in the comfort of their own home.

A 2020 graduate of the University of Calgary Veterinary Medicine program, Dr. Olivia started practicing in the thick of the pandemic as both an in-clinic and house call veterinarian. Seeing the difference house calls made in reducing stress levels for all those involved inspired her to foster this interest. After practicing at two bustling small animal clinics in Calgary, she launched Habitat Vet in the fall of 2024.

Her special interests include spinal adjustment/rehabilitation, dental surgery, and geriatric care including palliation. The heartwarming bond her clients share with their pets as family members is what drives her to provide excellent care.

A Calgary native, she is honoured to reach all corners of Calgary and the surrounding area to provide veterinary services.

Dr. Olivia also has a special place in her heart for pet pigs. She has engaged in additional education to care for pigs in a house call capacity and is passionate about creating accessible care for these unique creatures.

She spends most of her free time with her wonderful husband, kitties, and pup. Otherwise, you’ll find her travelling, crafting, cooking, and enjoying concerts with friends.

Jen Girard, DVM/CCRT

DVM/CCRT

Dr. Jen has developed a passion for rehabilitation by practicing mixed animal medicine and noticing holes in the spectrum of care when it comes to managing injuries, chronic conditions, and pain. Her own journey with severe back pain led her down the path of seeing chiropractors and athletic therapists to help her live her best life again. It helped, so to be able to change the life of animals in the same way, she decided to become a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist, which she accomplished in early 2025. She has partnered with Habitat Vet to bring at-home rehabilitation care to your pets to get them back to moving and living their best lives too.

In her free time Dr Jen is usually with her husband, their Alaskan husky, and cats, or lifting heavy weights. She also enjoys getting out to the mountains, golfing, and pitching in fastpitch softball (but only when the weather is nice!).

Kathryn
Kathryn Shalley
Client Care Specialist

Kathryn began work in the industry during Covid lockdown and has a background in general, mobile, and emergency veterinary practice. She loves how at-home visits allow our patients and their families to stay comfortable and together, reducing stress as much as possible.

When she isn’t keeping Dr. Olivia organized or answering your messages, Kathryn is probably reading a book or writing a short story, with the ever-present companionship of her dog, Lady.
